SALISBURY — The Sheetz gasoline and convenience store going up at the corner of Old Concord Road and Jake Alexander Boulevard is tentatively scheduled to open for business in mid-September, company officials said Friday.

The company is advertising jobs on its website and interviews have begun for the 45-50 people expected to work there, said John Apa, manager of talent development for Sheetz.

And while this store will be the first for the Altoona, Pa.-based company in Rowan County — and only the second in the 704 area code, according to the store finder on its website — its red-and-yellow signs, fuel pump touch screens that let customers order food while they gas up, and espresso bars serving specialty coffee could become a more common sight.
